MR. EDWIN ALLEN, FOR A LONG TIME A RESIDENT OF MOUNT MORRIS, DIES AT HIS HOME

After a gradual illness that was unmistakably fatal, Mr. Edwin J. Allen, an old and respected resident of our village, passed away on Sunday morning, February 15. For several years the declining health of Mr. Allen had been recognized by a sympathetic community and the announcement of his death occasioned no surprise.

The funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kabele in charge, followed by burial in Oakwood Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon.

Edwin Jerome Allen, the son of Aaron Quimby and Elizabeth Allen was born on October 22, 1852, on the old Allen farm, now the Allen McClure farm one mile south of Mount Morris. He died at his home in the village on February 15, 1920, aged 67 years, 3 months and 24 days.

On the 12th day of November, 1895, he was united in marriage with Louise Seise at the home oh her mother in Lena, Illinois. To this union were born three sons: Edwin who died in infancy; Ralph Edwin, who died in his fourteenth year and Harry Raymond, who with his mother survive.

Preceeding him in death were two brothers: Samuel Clay and Robert Quimby, and three sisters, Lydia Willard Allen, Mary Allen Kieth and Emma Allen Cosgrove. The youngest sister, Mrs. Elizabeth McClure, survives him.

Practically all of Mr. Allen's life was spent in this community. He had a continuous identity with its diversified affairs and was known as a citizen of sustained and intelligent interest in its welfare.

For many years he was the auctioneer par excellence in this county. Like his father and brother, before him, he possessed the rare gift of ready expression that made salesmanship an easy accomplishment.

Mr. Allen will be missed by all the older residents of the community for his fine social gifts and large hearted human interest. He leaves behind him a family universally respected and to whom the community extends its deepest sympathy.
