(Mrs. Abraham) Elizabeth (Schmeltzer) Motter 1828-1916

Death has been a visitor in our community quite frequently during the past winter, stopping on the 25th of February at 2:30 P.M. calling Mrs. Abram Motter to rest.

The deceased is one of the very early settlers of our county, coming to Maryland Township in the year 1853 from Dauphin Co., PA, where she lived with her husband until 21 years ago when he died. Since that time, for many years, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Caroline Drumheller at Lightsville, until Mrs. Drumheller's death. From that time on she has made her home with her two daughters, Mrs. Frank Kuntzelman and Mrs. Emma Light of Egan.

Mrs. Motter, the past year had been living with Mrs. Light and about three weeks ago she began to fail and gradually grew weaker as time went on, going peacefully to her rest.

Mrs. Motter has seen the life of the early settlers of Leaf River Township, living in this immediate community 63 years.

The funeral was held on Monday, February 23rd at the North Grove Christian Church with Rev. Eakle of Polo, former presiding elder for the Evangelical Church of North Grove, and Rev. W. C. South of the United Brethren Church of Leaf River, the ministers officiating. The pall bearers of the good old lady were six of her grandsons, William and Clinton Motter, Albert and Alton Kuntzelman, Irvin Light, and Jesse Heiter. Her remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in the North Grove Christian Cemetery.

Submitted by her 2nd great grandson, Roger Cramer
