AGED WOMAN LAID TO REST

Mrs. Elizabeth Motter, Ogle Co. Pioneer Dies at Home of Daughter

Mrs. Elizabeth Motter, who for the past year has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Bowerman, died on Sunday night. Elizabeth Schott Motter was born on February 2, 1831 in Mifflin Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and died June 17, 1917, aged 86 years, 4 months, and 15 days.

She was married to Leonard Motter on November 21, 1852. Coming from Pennsylvania, they settled in Leaf River Township, April 16, 1859. Her husband preceded her in death, July 21, 1896.

The deceased was the mother of seven children, all of whom are living, Wm. F. Motter, of Elkton, South Dakota; Mrs. Philip Messner of Shannon; John A. and Aaron Motter, Mrs. Frank Schreiber, Mrs. Henry Schreiber, and Mrs. Margaret Bowerman of Leaf River; twenty-nine grandchildren, and thirty-five great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Susan Novinger of Missouri, and Mrs. Margaret Stover of Nebraska, also survive her. The funeral was held on Wednesday at the North Grove Evangelical Church of which she was a member for more than 50 years, Rev. Albrecht of Forreston preaching the funeral sermon. The choir consisting of the Rev. C. J. Williams, C. C. Lovell, Mrs. S. E. Sprecher, Miss Mary Shafstal, and Mrs. C. A. Boynton of the Methodist Church giving a number of beautiful selections.

The desceased was one of those good souls, always having a good word for everybody and living a quiet, peaceful Christian life.

She was laid away beside the remains of her departed husband by six of her grandsons, Dr. H. E. Bowerman, Lloyd Motter, John W. Motter, Clayton Schreiber, and James and Harry Messner, who were the pall bearers.

Elizabeth Motter, nee Schott, was born Feb. 2, 1831 in Mifflin Twp., Dauphin Co., Pa. She was married to Leonard Motter, Nov. 21, 1852. This union was blessed with 7 children. The family settled in Ogle Co., Il., in 1859. She experienced a change of heart and joined the Evangelical Association over 50 years ago. She was a true follower of the Savior. She was a true help-mate and a loving mother. Her husband preceded he in death in 1896. She died of heart failure June 17, 1917 at Leaf River, Il. She leaves 3 sons, 4 daughters, 29 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters.
