Forreston Herald, December 12, 1878:

In Memoriam: Wednesday, Nov. 27th, Entered into Rest. Eliza D. Ellis, aged 40 years and 9 months.
Mrs. Ellis was the daughter of Mr. Augustus W. Chappell, of Forreston, who was the brother of Mrs. Jeremiah Porter. She was married at Rockford, Illinois, May 19th, 1878, (this was the paper’s mistake...I would think) and was the mother of seven children, of whom five are living to mourn their beloved mother’s loss.
Twenty years of happy married life have been given to this sweet spirit; then after a brief sickness and much suffering from nervous prostration, the gates of pearl were opened wide for this devoted and faithful wife, this kind and loving mother, this affectionate, true hearted friend, this beautiful christian lady. She was the niece of Mrs. Jeremiah Porter, of saintly memory, and the virtues of this lovely woman have
blossomed abundantly in the character of her favorite niece.
Always conscientious: without the slightest shadow of swerving from the strictest truth; abounding in that perfect charity which thinketh no evil; her beautiful life sweet with the fragrance of loving deeds of kindness to her family, her friends, the poor, all who needed her kind ministrations,--has left a shining example and noble record which loyal hearts will faithfully treasure.--reprinted from the Green Bay, Wisconsin, “Gazette”.
