Obituary from the Clinton Herald on Tuesday, August 24, 1937:

Mrs Eva C. Petrie, a resident of Clinton for many years, died at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Fred Swanson, 810 Twelfth Avenue South, after a year of failing health. Her last illness was of five weeks duration.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Snell Funeral Home with Dr. J.B. Ackman, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.
Eva C. Davis was born in Mt. Morris, IL, October 30, 1880, the daughter of S.E. and Rebecca Davis. She was one of a family of 12 children, four of whom still are living. The deceased was reared and educated in Mt. Morris and served as a school teacher there for a number of years.

She was united in marriage to Freedline Petrie in Aurora, IL, December 15, 1881. The family moved to Clinton about 45 years ago and had resided here since. Mr. Petrie preceded his wife in death January 11, 1912.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Ollie McCune, Mrs. Charles Allesee and Mrs. Fred Swanson, all of Clinton; five grandchildren, Raymond McCune of LaSalle, IL; Charles Allesee, Mrs Harold Kropp; Stuart Sloppy and Joyce Swanson of Clinton; one great grandchild, Ray McCune, Jr., of LaSalle, IL; one brother, Ben G. Davis of Washinton, D.C.; three sisters, Mrs J. H. Depue of Chicago; Mrs. Hattie Miller of Clinton and Mrs. Fred Long of Mt Morris, IL; in addition to a number of other relatives and friends. A son preceded her in death.
The body will be brought at 4 o'clock this afternoon to the home of her daughter, Mrs Swanson, where friends may call.
