George W. Ling

George Washington Ling, 97, Lee County's last survivor of the Civil war, passed away at 6:30 o'clock this morning at his home in Franklin Grove, following an illness of three weeks duration. He was born Feb. 12, 1846 in Somerset County, Pa., and at the age of 18 enlisted in the Union army and was assigned to duty with Co. K, Fifth Pennsylvania Infantry. After the close of the war the family came west and settled on a farm above five miles north of Franklin Grove, and for the past several years had resided in the village. He is survived by one son, Guy Ling of Holcomb; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. His wife nnd two daughters preceded him in death. Funeral services are to be conducted at the First Methodist Church at Franklin Grove, of which he had been a faithful member for years, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment will be in the Lighthouse Cemetery.
