GEORGE PETRIE, Farmer, Sec. 8; P.O. Rockvale; owns 40 acres; probable valuation, $1,500; Mr. Petrie was born January 5, 1835 in Herkimer Co., N.Y.; came to Rockvale in 1854; he was married October 30, 1860 to Adelaide H., daughter of Stephen Clancy, of Saratoga Co., N.Y.; Mrs. P. was born December 15, 1840; they have two children-Nellie M. and Florence M.; Mr. Petrie is a Republican; he enlisted in the 74th I.V. I. in the war of the rebellion, August 13, 1862; he was engaged in the battles of Stone River, Chickamauga, Mission Ridge, Resaca, GA, Franklin and Nashville, Tenn., and in all of the minor engagements his regiment took part in; at the battle of Stone River (December 31, 1862) he fell into the rebels hands and was confined in Libby Prison for about two months, when he was paroled to City Point, and exchanged in June 1863 and rejoined his regiment; was mustered out June 10, 1865 at Nashville, Tenn., and returned to Rockvale; Mr. P. was Town Collector for three years; and is now Town Assessor and School Director.
