Fom the Hagerstown Herald & Torch Light Newspaper dated February 4, 1892:

"John Long, one of the early settlers of Lincoln Township, Ogle County, Illinois, died at his home at Maryland Station, that State, Monday January 25th. Mr. Long was prostrated with the grippe the first of January, which soon developed pneumonia causing his death.
John Long was born in Washington County, Maryland, in April, 1824. In 1845, accompanying his parents he went to Illinois and settled upon a farm near Maryland Station, which he has occupied until recently. Being an industrious man, and going there at that early date, he acquired a large property probably not less than $50,000. Mr. Long was twice married. His second wife and one son, John M., are all of his immediate family who survive him."
