TWO WELL-KNOWN PEOPLE CALLED

MRS. E. J. ALLEN TAKEN SUDDENLY AND MR. CHRIST ZUMDAHL AFTER PROTRACTED ILL HEALTH

Both Were Among Leading Citizens of Mt. Morris and Numbered Hosts of Friends and Relatives in Respective Circles.

Two more highly respected citizens of Mt. Morris passed away last week, one after a very short illness and one after lingering ill health.

Mrs. E. J. Allen, died Wednesday night, March 14, after but one week's illness. She contracted a bad cold which developed rapidly into pleuro-pneumonia and her condition quickly became so alarming that her doctor sent a message to her son, Harry, at Carthage College to come home, but Mrs. Allen being one of those mothers who thinks more of her children than themselves sent him word not to leave his work.

However, the sad news of his mother's passing reached Harry Thursday and he reached home for the funeral which was held Saturday, March 17, from the Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Kabele. The following were pallbearers: Herman Eykamp, B. S. Price, Benj. Royer, S. E. Avery, Frank Baker, Ed Mumma. Interment was made at Oakwood.

Mrs. Louise Seise Allen was born at Lena, Ill., November 16, 1863, died at Mount Morris, Ill., March 14, 1923, aged 59 years, 3 months, 28 days. Her girlhood was spent at Lena, Ill., where she became an active member of the Lutheran Church and a member of its choir. When twelve years of age her father met with accidental death when she was compelled to leave school.

November 12, 1895, she was united in marriage to Edward Jerome Allen of Mt. Morris, since which time she has resided here, first caring for Mr. Allen's mother until her death, and later for her own aged mother for eight years until her death.

She was the mother of three sons: Edwin, who died in early infancy; Ralph Edward, who died when 13 years of age in 1911; and Harry Raymond of Mt. Morris, who survives. The husband and father died February 15, 1920.

Besides more distant relatives and the many friends to whom she was dear, there remain also to mourn her departure, three brothers, namely: Peter Seise and Ade Seise of Lena, Ill., and Henry Seise of Warren, Ill.

February 9, 1896, she transferred her membership by letter from Lena to the Mt. Morris Lutheran Church, of which she was one of the most interested and devoted members, being very regular in attendance at all its services, a tither for the Lord's work, and one of the most interested and appreciative listeners to the exposition of the Holy Scriptures. Her appreciative presence in the congregation has been a very helpful inspiration to the Pastor and she will be greatly missed from her accustomed place, as well as her kindly and helpful friendship and influence.

While her own hand have been folded in rest, the Master saying, "It is enough," she will continue to live in the lives which have been helpfully influenced by hers, and especially in that of her son whom she has given and reared for the Lord's services.
