Mrs. Charles Clancey Lewis

Mrs. Charles Clancey Lewis died Thursday morning, 10 o'clock of Cancer. She had been a sufferer for two years, but was only confined to her bed for four or five weeks. She attended a council of learned physicians at home and at Rockford and elsewhere but could find no relief. She retained her faculties until the last and was surrounded in her dying bed by her family excepting her daughter Mrs. Domer who was at home in Kansas.

She was born in Wilton, Saratoga Co., New York, fifty-five years ago and was married to her husband, Charles Lewis in 1850, at her home in Willow, New York, and moved to Ogle County two years later and located where they now now live. She is the mother of seven children, four of them still survive her and three died in childhood; her daughter, Mrs. Oscar Swingley, living in Ogle Co.; Mrs. Andrew Domer, Mrs. Will Haney are living in Kansas and Addie, unmarried, was living at home with her mother. She was a member of the Baptist Church and a kind and consistant christian, beloved by all who knew her. Her aged father, Stephen Clancy, and her sister, Mrs. George
Petrie, live in Oregon. She was buried Saturday at Silver Creek burying ground. Rev. Father Cartwright preaching the funeral.
