The corpse was conveyed to the Methodist church in Adeline, where services were held. Mr. Ellis of Baileyville, delivered the funeral discourse. Services being ended, the remains were interred beside his wife in the Coffman cemetery, three miles northwest of Adeline. Samuel I. Jacobs was born in Alleghany county, Maryland, August 21st, 1808, died in Englewood, Illinois, December, 1st, 1888, aged 80 years, three months and ten days. In his early years he attended a medical school in Baltimore, Md., and at the age of thirty began the practice of medicine. March 2nd, 1834, he was married to Elizabeth Coffman, who preceded him to the grave some three years ago. In 1841 he came to this state and located about three miles northwest of Adeline where he lived until 1853, when he moved into the village. He resided there until the death of his wife, since which time he has made his home with his son Henry in Chicago, at which place he died of pneumonia after a sickness of only five days. He was among the first settlers in this township, and one of the first physicians of this part of the state. His territory of medical practice, in those says, extended from Rock River to the Mississippi, and from Galena to Dixon. There are few of the old settlers embraced in that territory who were not familiar with old Doctor Jacobs. He died as he lived, a firm believer in a resurrection from the dead to inherit eternal life in the Kingdom which Christ is to establish on this earth.
