"As stated in our brief notice last week, Samuel Powell died suddenly in Polo on the evening of Tuesday, January 3rd, in the 75 year of his age. He was born in Washington County, Maryland, July 27, 1807. On the 9th day of September 1831, he married Miss Sarah Root, who died in August 1871. They had thirteen children, eight of whom are still living. In 1840 they moved to Ohio, remaining there until 1845 when they moved to Mount Morris, since which time he has lived in the vicinity. In 1876 he was married to Mrs. Adelia Leal, who survives him. He has been a member of the Lutheran Church since his twenty-second year. He was one of the organizers of the Lutheran congregation of Polo, the services of which he attended ever since. His seat was seldom vacant. He was present Sabbath before last; only two days before his death. He was the last member of a large and long-lived family. His brother Upton died two years ago next tuesday, since which time two other members of the family have died. He was well and favorably known in this community as an honest and upright citizen. The funeral on Friday was attended by a large concourse of relatives and the remains were taken to Mount Morris for interment. His son S. J. and daughter Hannah, of Adebolt, Iowa did not arrive in time to attend the funeral."
