Thomas Lindsay, for more than a half a century a resident of Ogle County, died at his home, Saturday, June 25th. The deceased was born at a point in eastern Ohio just across the Ohio River from Wheeling, West Virginia May 18, 1841. When but four years of age he moved with his family to Muscatine, Iowa and when about eight years old he was left an orphan to be bound out to strangers, in which experience he suffered the common lot of such unfortunates. On reaching his eighteenth year, he determined to become his own guardian, and first located near Mt. Morris, where he was employed as a farm hand until his marriage, January 5, 1865 to Margaret E. Koontz, since which time he made his home in the vicinity of Adeline; until three years ago, when with his family he removed to Oregon where he could enjoy a retired life and the privileges of the church with which he had become affiliated in early life. He made the Bible his rule of faith and practice and was loyal to every duty in home and neighborhood. There survive him his faithful wife and nine children. They are: Samuel J., William H., Lewis E., and Lillie M., of Oregon. Oliver S., Algona, Iowa, Mrs. Margaret Jacobs and Mrs. Emma Icely, Leaf River, George H. of Harper, and Charles T. of Orangeville, Ill. The funeral service was held Monday at Adeline, Elder G.E. Marsh of Oregon officiating, and the six sons of the deceased serving as pallbearers. Interment was made in the family lot in the Adeline Cemetary.
