WILLIAM H. CUNNINGHAM-- Is a prominent merchant, dealer in groceries, crockery and provisions, at Polo, and established his business there in 1865, in company with Mr. John BINGAMAN. The subject of this sketch was born in Washington County, Maryland, May 21, 1841, and is the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (SPICKLER) CUNNINGHAM. He came to Polo in 1858, and engaged as clerk with H.N. MURRAY, grocer. This connection continued until 1865, when he and Mr. Bingaman bought out Murray, and continued the business under the firm name of BINGAMAN & CUNNINGHAM. They conducted a successful business for 20 years, when Mr. BINGAMAN withdrew from the firm since which time Mr. CUNNINGHAM has carried on the business alone, with like success. He has a well stocked store in his line, and carries a stock of from $ 4,000 to $ 5,000 in value. Mr. Cunningham was married at Polo, to Miss Delilah SANFORD, daughter of Harrison SANFORD, an early settler of Ogle County. Mrs. CUNNINGHAM having been born in Buffalo Grove, Oct. 7, 1847. Four children were born of this union, one son and three daughters namely: Cora, born Dec. 13, 1868; Frank S., born Aug. 8, 1870; Fannie, born July 25, 1872; and Cirrie, born Nov. 6, 1874. Mr. CUNNINGHAM is a Republican, and is a member of the Masonic order, Lodge no. 87, of Tyrean Chapter, No. 61, and a Dixon Commandery No. 21, and is an honorable and successful business man.
