The Kilbuck Cemetery is a rural cemetery located at the intersection of Kilbuck Road and Crill Road. There are approximately 60 gravesites and most have been vandalized. Throughout the cemetery are noticeable gaps which may very well contain gravesites in which the headstones are now missing. The cemetery fell into a period of neglect until the late 1980's. It was surrounded by pines, overgrown with grapevine and weeds, and difficult to identify as a cemetery from Kilbuck Road. The site was cleaned up by a local boy scout troop which had the unexpected and unfortunate effect of making it visible to traffic on Kilbuck Road. A short time after this effort the cemetery was vandalized. Many of the headstones were toppled over or broken and several headstones were actually taken. The pines which surrounded the cemetery were ravaged in a strong storm in the late 1990's and now only a few remain. Along the north boundary several broken headstones lay beneath some of the pines that remain. One of these stones contains a poignant inscription. Although the name is missing, the child died Oct 30, 1857 at the age of 7years and 2 months: We miss thee from the band so dear that gathers round our hearth. We listen still thy voice to hear amid our household mirth. We gaze upon thy vacant chair, thy form we seem to see. We start to find thou art not there yet joy that thou art free. A crown is on thine angel brow, thine eye the King doth see. Thy home is with the seruphs now we joy that thou art free.
