Shannon - Services for Albert Wirtjes, 83, Shannon area resident for 80 years who died Sunday in his home here wafter an illness of several weeks, will be at 1:30 p.m. (CST) Tuesday in his residence, and at 2 p.m. in Evangelical United Brethren Church.
The Rev. T. R. Moritz, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Brethren Cemetery. Friends may call in the residence. Arrangements were completed in the Scharman funeral home. Mr. Wirtjes was born in Germany April 20, 1868, and came to this area when he was 3 years old. He farmed until 1937 when he retired and moved to Shannon. Surviving are his widow, the former Elizabeth Wagens; six sons, John, Christ, Ralph, Ben, Albert and Clarence, all of Shannon; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Shannon, Ill., May 14. --- Albert Wirtjes, 83, a retired farmer, died here at his home Sunday morning.
He was born, April 20, 1868, in Ostfriesland, Germany, the son of John and Gertrude Wirtjes.
He married the former Elizabeth Wagens of Forreston November 1, 1898.
Survivors include his wife and six sons, John, Christ, Ralph, Ben, Bert and Clarence, all of Shannon. There are eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.He was a member of Modern Woodmen of America for 60 years.
Funeral services will be conducted at the home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday and at 2 'clock in the Shannon E.U.B. church. Rev. T. R. Moritz will officiating. Interment will be in Shannon Cemetery.
