Mrs. Anna Lee Funk, daughter of Josiah and Nancy (Poffenberger) Barber, was born in Hagerstown, Washington Co., MD, April 29, 1862 and died at her home in Adeline, IL on August 3, 1918, aged 56 years, 3 months, and 4 days.
She came with her parents to Illinois when a child and settled in Maryland township, afterwards moving to Leaf River where she resided for many years.
She was married to John E. Funk at Oregon on October 3, 1878, and to this union was born eleven children, all of whom are living: Oscar A. of Stratford, Wis.; Mrs. Cora M. Springstein of New Underwood, SD; John F. of Byron; Mrs. Rosa A. Straw of Independence, Iowa; Mrs. Myrtle J. Kuntzelman of Adeline; Mrs. Alice P. Straw of Pittsville, Wis.; Mrs. Nellie McKinley of Leaf River; William H., Ray L., Nettie M., and Charles A., all at home.
She leaves to mourn the husband, children, 31 grandchildren, 6 brother, 6 sisters, and many other relatives and friends.
She had been confined to her bed for eleven weeks and at times her suffering seemed almost more than she could bear. She realized that the end was near and that her Father in heaven would soon call her home. Therfore she made preparation, choosing her minister and pallbearers. Her children were all home before she died.
The funeral was held at the United Brethren Church in Adeline on August 6th, Rev. E. G. Walk officiating.
