G.A.R. VETERAN IS MUSTERED OUT

Daniel Ridenour Called to Rest at Age of 91 Years---Enlisted in Pennsylvania

Served Three Years, 1862-65, in Artillery---Resident of Community For Sixty Years.

Mount Morris G.A.R. ranks were reduced one-fourth in number at 9:00 o'clock Monday morning when Daniel Ridenour was mustered from life after a short illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.D. Coddington, with whom he had made his home for some years. A resident of this community for nearly sixty years, Mr. Ridenour following the occupation of farming. In this he was successful, gaining also the enviable reputation of being a man of upright character, ever ready to help others. Daniel Ridenour, son of John and Nancy (Zellers) Ridenour, was born in Washington Co., Md., Nov. 6, 1836. He died June 25, 1928, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.D. Coddington. His age at death was 91 years, 7 months, and 19 days. The cause of his death was senility, he being bedfast for a short period of a week.

Throughout his life Mr. Ridenour had been blessed with wonderful health, saying just a few days before his death that he had never known any great pain. He enlisted in the Union Army in the year of 1862, serving in the 2nd Pennsylvania Artillery, and served until the close of the war in 1865, when he received his honorable discharge. Soon after being discharged from the Army, he migrated to this state, settling in the vicinity of Polo. Later he came to the vicinity of Mount Morris where he resided until his death. In the years of his residence here he has seen a marvelous development in the city and community. In 1873 he was married to Susan Rowland. To this union seven children were born, two of whom survive the death of their father, Mrs. E.D.Coddington, of Mount Morris, and Mrs. David Paul, of Byron. He is also survived by six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a half sister, Mrs. Maggie Williams, of Mount Morris. Mr. Ridenour was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and took an active part in its activities. He is another gone from the fast dwindling ranks of those who have lived and served their country in trying times. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Brethren Church, Rev. Mr. Hightower preaching the sermon in the absence of Rev. Mr. Wine. Interment was made at Plainview.
