DAVID PETRIE
Brief mention was made last week of the death of David Petrie at his home in Hudson, Iowa. the following obituary of the deceased is from the home paper at Hudson:
David Petrie was born in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, September 9, 1834 and died at Hudson, Iowa, January 15, 1913, aged 78 years, 4 months and 6 days. In 1840, when he was 6 years old, he came with his parents to Illinois and settled in Ogle County where he grew to manhood. On February 4, 1858, he was married to Mary Catherine Bovey of Ogle County, Ill. To this Union were born five children, all of whom survive except Ida who died in 1861.
Mr. Petrie was not a rover but a pilgrim and in 1863 with his family, he went to Iowa and settled on a farm in Lincoln Township, Black Hawk County, now occupied by his youngest son. Only one move was made since then, when he with his faithful companion retired and came to Hudson in the spring of 1891.
Mr. Petrie was converted and joined the United Brethren Church at West Grove, Ill, in 1862 and since that time was faithful to Christ and loyal to the church and had lived the life of a Christian to his death.
The children who are left to mourn his death and share the deepest heart grief with their mother are Clinton A. of Waterloo; E.E.; Mrs. Sargeant and Bert of Hudson; also twelve grandchildren, and two brothers, Lewis of Dixon and Fred of Clinton, Iowa, and two sisters, Frances Stouffer of Adeline, Ill., and Mrs. Mary C. Bovey of Reinbeck, Iowa. Three brothers preceded him in death, Jacob, Jonas and Upton.
Mr. Petrie had been a sufferer for many years, but the immediate cause of his death was a severe hemorrhage of the brain.
