Douglas P. Hambell, 94, died Tuesday night in DeKalb County home where he had lived the past two years.
He was a gardener and worked on the Black Hawk Statue in Lowden State Park.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Farrell Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul R. Bollman of the Lutheran church officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Cemetery, Rockvale. Friends may call in the funeral home Thursday afternoon and evening.
Mr. Hambell was born Oct. 4, 1859 in Iowa, and married Mary Westbrook in Iowa March 18, 1892. The couple moved to Illinois a short time later. Mrs. Hambell died in 1925.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. H.H. Luepkes, Kirkland, and Mrs. John Roos, Oregon; a son, Glenn, Rockford; ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
