MOUNT MORRIS INDEX dated Wed. March 3, 1897
ANOTHER OLD SETTLER GONE
Edward Keedy, one of Ogle County's old settlers, died at his home, one mile east of town, Monday, March 1, after a long period of illness from Bright's disease and muscular rheumatism, which finally resulted in rheumatism of the heart. His age was 68 years, 8 months. Like most of our old settlers, Mr. Keedy was a native of Washington Co., Md., where he was born on July 1, 1828. In 1853 he married Miss Elizabeth Blecker, and 16 years later, 1869, he brought his family to Illinois, taking up his abode at the home where he died. The family was bereft of wife and mate about five years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Keedy were born 10 children, of whom 6 boys, and 2 girls are still living; two children having died in infancy. The funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 o'clock in the Christian Church, Rev. Wright officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest beside those of his wife in Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Keedy was known and respected as one of our most worthy men, and the community are united in extending its sympathy to the bereaved children.
