OBITUARY
Miss Elizabeth Swingley daughter of Michael and Mary Swingley, was born in Washington County, Maryland, November 28, 1822, and died in Mt. Morris, Monday, March 19, 1900, aged 77 years, 3 months and 19 days. She was married to Quimby A. Allen March 4, 1841, and came with her husband to Illinois in 1845. She was the mother of seven children, four of whom: Robert Q., Edwin J., Mrs. R. D. McClure, of this place, and Mrs. Wm. H. Cosgrove of Chicago survive her.
Grandma Allen, as she was affectionately known throughout this section, united with the Lutheran Church in early childhood and was until the time of her death a faithful worshipper at that altar. Even in her latter days, when the step was feeble and faltering, she would be seen nearly every Sunday morning, prayer-book in hand, slowly making her way to the house of worship. Her life was made up of good deeds and her death will be deeply mourned by the entire community.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. L. Lipe in the Lutheran Church this forenoon at 10 o'clock. The remains were laid to rest by the side of her departed husband in the family lot in Oakwood.
