Mrs. Charles Allen, Pioneer Resident Called Wednesday
Funeral Service for Highly Respected Lady Today at the Christian Church
Mrs. Charles H. Allen, a life-long resident of this community died Wednesday afternoon at 12:10 at the home of her grandson, Dudley Allen, following a protracted illness with a heart ailment and a general breakdown of the organic system due to advanced age. Although little hope had been held for her recovery for a period of several months, it was not until early this week that it became apparent that death was imminent.A member of the Christian Church since girlhood, Mrs. Allen was beloved by all who knew her for her sterling worth and beauty of spirit.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the home of her grandson at 1:30 and at the Christian Church at 2:00, in charge of Rev. N.A. Bolinger of Rock Island, assisted by Rev. W. Harold Wiltz. Interment will be made at Oakwood Cemetery.
The last surviving member of the large family of Daniel and Catherine Wolfe, Mrs. Allen was born on the family homestead north of Mount Morris on July 11, 1859 and at death was 80 years, 3 months and 14 days of age.
She secured her education in the local schools and on Dec. 22, 1878 was united in marriage to Chas. H. Allen, who preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1925. Seven children were born to this union.

Of these, two sons and two daughters preceded their mother in death. They were Ada May, Mrs. Wm Kohl, who died Jan. 4, 1907; Edward E., who passed away November 19, 1918; Florence Evelyn, Mrs. James Watt, who death occured Sept. 18, 1931, and an infant son. Surviving are three sons; Raymond H. of Crawfordsville, Id.; Jesse Q., Mount Morris, and Earl C., of Oregon, as well as 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.Contributed by Peg Allen Arnold
