POLO – (Special) - A longtime resident of this community, Mrs. Emma Garman, 80, rural Polo, died late Wednesday in the Manor Nursing Home after a long illness.
She was born near Forreston on July 18, 1875, the daughter of William and Margaret Derby.
She was married July 8, 1897, to Harry Garman. They farmed for many years in the Polo area before retiring about 30 years ago.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Lee, Haldane; a brother, Jesse Derby, Forreston; a sister, Mrs. Walter Rucker, Polo; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Frank; three sisters; two brothers; two half-sisters and a half-brother.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Melvin Funeral Home, Polo, with Dr. K. E. Irvin, pastor of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Brookville Lutheran Cemetery, located northwest of Polo. Friends may call in the funeral home after 7 o’clock tonight.
