Obituary:
"December 6, 1838--January 16, 1903: Mrs. Edwin Rice, one of the most respected and highly esteemed ladies of Kings, died at her home at that place at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon, January 16, after an illness of about two years. Miss Emma Eyster was born December 6, 1838, in Northumberland County, Penn., and came west with her parents in 1847; the family settled in White Rock Township, Ogle County. She was united in marriage to Edwin Rice on December 16, 1862. Two children were born to them, Dora E. Rice and Cyrus A. Rice. Mr. Rice died three years ago last September. Besides her children, Mrs. Rice leaves five brothers and sisters, as follows: Charles Eyster, Cyrus Eyster of Holcomb; Mrs. Anna Stowell of Rockford; Mrs. Eli Chaney of Paines Point; and Bert Eyster of Kings. Mrs. Rice was a kind and loving mother, a true and affectionate wife and a good neighbor, and her demise is deeply deplored throughout this section. The funeral was held from the Kings M.E. Church at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon, a large number of relatives, friends and neighbors being present. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful, the casket being covered with roses and carnations."
