DIED: March 21, 1926, age 79 years, 3 months
Married at the residence of the Bride's Father in Winnebago County, Illinois by Rev. D. W. Price n Seward Township. Ephraim Burd - oldest child of Levi and Lydia (Smith) Burd. Born in Perry County, Pennsylvania, December 16, 1846.

Before 18 years old, he enlisted in Co. E 208th Pa. Vol. Inf. Served until end of Civil War and was honorably discharged at Alexander, Virginia June 1, 1865. Married to Mary E. Moore at Byron Feb. 17, 1870. She passed away 28 years - before 1926. (1898) Ephraim had 2 sisters, Aunt Lizzie Kline of Byron and Mrs. Jennie Kennedy, Elmhurst, Ill. Funeral services for Ephraim were March 24, 1926.

He served as school director and President of School Board for many years in succession. Also as Road Commissioner and very active in politics. Also active in the G.A.R. and no patriotic exercise in Byron was complete without Ephraim Burd. Byron felt a great loss of a very loyal public spirited citizen and was most fair in all dealings with his fellowmen. 9 Children: Ernest of Winn. County, Daisy, Wm. of Rkfd, formerly of Byron, Samuel 1883), Alice Moulder, Angleton, Tx., Levi, Irvin, Mary (Mamie) & Genevieve (Jen). He was buried in 1926 in Byron Cemetery, Byron, Ogle County, Illinois. He served in the military Civil War in Co. E, 208th PA Volunteer Infantry. The two hundredth and eighth regiment organized at Camp Curtin, Harrisburg, Pa. the 12 Sep 1864. On the 27th of Nov it joined the
Army of the Potomac and was assigned to the First Brigade, Third Division of the Ninth Corps under the command of General Hartranft.
On the 25th of March helped capture Fort Steadman. From the 27 Mar to 2 Apr were constantly moving, till the assult on Petersburg at
which 48 were killed or wounded. On the ninth of April arrived at Nottoway Court house where they remained till the 20th. At
Alexandria the 208 were mustered out of service.
