Obituary:
"August 7, 1824--January 11, 1907 [sic, 1908]
Esther Rice was born in Allegheny County New York, August 7, 1824. Came with her parents to White Rock, Illinois, Ogle County, in 1837. The last 25 years of her life she made her home with her sister Mrs. D. H. Hayes, who with one brother, Alanson Rice of Iowa, are the only survivors of a family of ten children. She was baptized about 32 years ago uniting with the Stillman Valley Baptist Church. Death occurred January 11, at the age of 83 years 5 months and 4 days. The funeral was held on Sunday at 1 o'clock p.m. at the residence of D. H. Hayes, the services being conducted by Rev. J. P. Davies, pastor of the M.E. church in Rochelle. Mrs. A. B. Eyster, Miss Ada Burgess, Messrs. F. J. and Harry King composed the quartette who sang, 'Asleep in Jesus,' 'Leaning On the Everlasting Arms' and 'We'll Never Say Goodby in Heaven.' With R. M. King, A. B. Eyster, Alex Burgess, Wm. McDowell, John Pierson, and John Milligan acting as pall bearers, the remains were laid at rest beside her mother and sister in the White Rock Cemetery where the services were conducted by Rev. Geo. A. Griswold of Kings. Friends from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Mary Rice, Frank, Emma, and Mattie Rice of Stillman Valley. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Grant of Rockford. Mrs. Wm Barr of DeKalb and Marana Rice of Central City, Iowa."
