The citizens of Creston wore shocked Monday morning an the news was passed along that Grandma Wood had died suddenly, and the forthcoming facts soon confirmed the rumor. There was no lingering illness and painful suffering. She was seated at the table. Apparently as well as usual, enjoying her morning meal when her head fell forward and the struggle was over.

The deceased Esther Wood was born in Madison Co., N. Y, June 2. 1807 and united in marriage, to Hiram Wood in 1834. In the year of 1835 they came to Illinois and have resided in Ogle Co. since 1842. at which date they located near Paynes Point where they were held In high esteem, by their pioneer neighbors. In 1800 they removed to Creston where has since been their home until death claimed the wife and mother as above stated.

The deceased leaves husband and two sons. John, who has resided with and cared tenderly for his parents through all their long years of infirmities, and E. S. Wood, a prominent citizen of Paynes Point who also has assisted In the care and comfort of his parents. Mrs. Wood was a lady of fine Christian character and for 15 years a member of the M. E. Church. The funeral service was conducted Monday evening at the residence in Creston by Rev. Fehlandt, of the Cong. church and early Tuesday morning the Funeral party left by carriage for Paynes Point where burial was made, the services at the grave being conducted by Rev. Otjen of this city, a former beloved pastor of the family.
