Frank Stonebraker Summoned Wednesday at the Age of 80

Frank Stonebraker, a life long resident of the community just north of town, died Wednesday morning after a long period of failing health. The youngest of seven children of Francis and Saloma Wagner Stonebraker, he observed his 80th birthday last Dec 7. Surviving are the widow and six children.

Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at the Methodist Church at 2:00 o’clock, in charge of Rev. Earl M. Edwards. Burial will be made in Oakwood Cemetery.

Funeral Services Held Feb. 23 For Frank Stonebraker

Funeral services were conducted last Friday afternoon at the Methodist Church for Frank S. Stonebraker, brief mention of whose death on Wednesday morning, Feb. 21, at his home one mile north of town was made in these columns last week. The rites were in charge of Rev. Earl M. Edwards. Burial was made in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Stonebraker’s death followed a number of years of failing health during which he was confined closely to his home much of the time. It was in this home which he loved so well that he spent his entire life span of over 80 years and in which he was content to remain without leaving its immediate surroundings for nearly a decade.

A remarkable man in many ways, Mr. Stonebraker possessed a keen sense of humor and sound judgment. Deeply interested in the progress of his community, he had the attribute of sound business sense and contributed no little toward the success of various Mount Morris enterprises, including the Citizens State Bank, Mount Morris Elevator Company and Kable Brothers Company, in which he invested substantially when the Kable Brothers Company, in which he invested substantially when the Kable twins started operations in 1898.

During the active years of his life he had many interests in addition to his farms. He constantly kept abreast of the times though reading and association with others, often walking to Mount Morris several times daily to make regular calls at various places of business, where he was welcomed as a well informed and witty conversationalist.

Frank S. Stonebraker was born Dec. 7, 1864, and at death was 80 years, one month and 14 days of age. His marriage to Mary Slifer of Mount Morris occurred in February, 1889, and they resided happily together for a period of 56 years.

Seven children, one of whom. Lula May, died in infancy, were born to this union. Surviving the husband and father are the widow, six children, Mrs. Mable Bennett, Chana, Mrs. Ethel Rothlind, Seattle, Wash., Ray and Hale, Mount Morris, and Franklin and Lester, at home; also 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his daughter, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Oliver Gloss, Mrs. John Tice, and Mrs. Edwin Marvin, and three brothers, Samuel, Daniel and John. Daniel was drowned in his early twenties and John was killed in his early teens in a haying accident.

The funeral of Frank S. Stonebraker, 80, who passed away early Wednesday morning at his home one and one-half west of this city, will be held at the Finch funeral home at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon. The Rev Earl Edwards, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Stonebraker was born Dec 7, 1869 in Mount Morris Township, the son of Francis W. and Salome Wagner Stonebraker. He was married in January 1889 to Mary Slifer.

Surviving are his widow; four sons, Ray and Hale, Mount Morris; Lester and Frank Jr., at the home; two daughters Mrs. John Bennett, Rochelle, and Mrs. Carl Rothlind, Seattle, Wash., and 14 grandchildren.
