Fred Steffa, retired farmer, died at 2:20 p.m. yesterday, after an illness of two weeks, at the home of his great-niece, Mrs. Susan Doyle, 1228 Elm Street.
He was born Sept. 1, 1867 in Rockvale Twp., Ogle County. On Dec. 29, 1904, he married Iva Coy, who died in 1928. He farmed in the vicinity of Mount Morris for many years. When he retired he moved to Rockford about 20 years ago.
Surviving are two great-nieces, Mrs Doyle and Mrs. Charles Lizer, both of Rockford.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Rock Of Ages Funeral Home in Byron. Burial will be at Silver Creek Cemetery near Leaf River.
