Obituary of Gavin Renwick Cross (1852-1924)

Gavin R. Cross, son of George and Jane Cross was born in Crossgates, Scotland, September 16, 1852. He came to this country with his parents when he was three years old. He passed away at his home in Polo, May 15, 1924, after an illness of two months, being the last of a family of seven children.

Mr. Cross is survived by his wife, five sons, three daughters and eleven grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the home of Rev. Harry C. Brown of the Methodist Church officiating, and interment was made in Fairmount cemetery. The pallbearers were four sons of the deceased, William, Floyd, George, Harold, his son-in-law Elmer C. Wilson and a nephew Howard Harmon. One son Renwick of Winner, South Dakota, was unable to be present.

Mr. Cross made his home in the vicinity of Polo for many years, later moving in town where he had the respect of all with whom he came in contact, living his life quietly and unassumingly. During his two month illness, his sufferings were intense and death came as a relief from earthly pain.
