George Wirtjes, 80 was found dead about 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at his home in Florence Township. He was believed to have suffered a heart attack.
Rev. H.D. Gabel, pastor of the Florence Station Evangelical Church, said he failed to see Mr. Wirtjes about the house and went to investigate. The aged man's son, Walter was called and the two broke into the house where they found Wirtjes dead in a chair.
Mr. Wirtjes was born in Germany in September, 1865. Shortly after his marriage he and his wife came to the United States and settled in Florence Township. His wife died about six years ago. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hilda Wessel, of Orangeville, Mrs. Florence Brockmeier, of Lanark, and three sons, George, Jr., of Shannon, Walter of Florence Station, Herman of Baileyville, six grandchildren, two of whom are in the military service and two brothers, Albert of Shannon and Herman of Lacona, Ia.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home and 2 o'clock at the Florence Station Evangelical Church. Rev. H. D.Gabel will officiate and burial will be made in the Florence Cemetery.The Journal-Standard, Freeport, Illinois, January 31, 1946
