September 7th, 1871, in Rochelle, Ill. Mrs. HANNAH BENNETT, aged 69 years 6 months.
Mother Bennett was born in Otsego county, N. Y., where she lived until 1862, when she came to Illinois, since which time she has resided in Rochelle and vicinity, where three of her daughters now live. During the cholera season of 1854 she was deprived in one day of a son, daughter and an exemplary husband; yet being a woman of unusual strength of mind she continued with her family alone, transacting all her own business, besides paying much attention to afflicted members of the family, caring for one of them during a protracted illness of nine years.
During her own illness she was patient in all her suffering and very kind to those in attendance. When eighteen years old she joined the Presbyterian church, since which she has remained not only a faithful member thereof, but a constant and happy Christian; full of charity toward her associated, kind to the erring, her perfect example and goodly admonition remain to all who knew her a monument of excellence pointing through this life to "the life above, which is but the ripe fruit of a life below."
Four children in the great west and two in New York mourn the death of all that can be implied in the sweet word mother, while numerous friends here and there mourn the departure of a loved one, pray that their last day may be like hers.
