Mrs. James Sheils, daughter of John Barry, died at the residence of her sister, Mrs. T. B. Gill, on Monday morning at about half past eleven, after an illness of about a week, from irreducible hernia.
On Tuesday evening of last week she was taken sick, but nothing very serious was apprehended. Still a physician was sent for, and immediately pronounced the case a serious one. Dr. Helm, of Rockford, was sent for and arrived as soon as possible, when it was at once known that chances were decidedly against the recovery of the patient, though the physicians were unrelenting in their efforts to alleviate the suffering of the patient.
The funeral was from the Congregational Church, by Rev. Bradock of Middle Creek, and was probably the largest funeral ever seen in Byron, showing the many friends that had become attached to her during her short life.
Mrs. Hannah B. Shiels was born in Chicago, Cook Co., Ill., Feb 22, 1844. She came to Byron with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Barry, when a few weeks old. Was married to James Sheils, Oct. 15, 1865, and is the mother of seven children, six of whom are living now. She was greatly loved by husband, children and friends. She was thirty-eight years old at the time of her death.
