FALLS DEAD IN SHARER STORE

HIRAM FELKER A VICTIM OF APOPLEXY

WAS HERE IN PIONEER TIMES

Came to the Town in 1855, Later Removing to Kansas -- Was Visisting Relatives Here.

While seated in a chair in the grocery store of his nephew Charles Sharer, death came suddenly Tuesday afternoon shortly after 3 o'clock to Hiram Felker, well known throughout the community. Death was due to apoplexy.

A half hour previously he had entered the store of Mr. Sharer on return from a walk to the depot and about the railroad yards, as was his daily custom. Seating himself in a chair, for a time he was engaged in conversation with friends happening to be present, and later while Mr. Sharer and Edward Marvin were engaged in conversation, the deep breathing of Mr. Felker attracted their attention and going to his side it was at once seen that his condition was serious. Dr. C. J. Price was hastily summoned, but no relief could be given and the patient died within a few minutes, the remains later being removed to the home of his brother Willoughby Felker, with whom he has been stopping for the past few months.

Nearly a year ago Mr. Felker returned to Mount Morris from Kansas City, Kan., to spend some time with his relatives here, being in rather infirm health at the time of his arrival, but apparently was quite robust when his sudden summons came.

Hiram D. Felker was born in Washington County, Md., Oct. 9, 1835, and died Nov. 30, 1909, at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 19 days. He came to Mount Morris while a young man with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Felker, in 1855, and engaged for a number of years in the following of his trade of harnessmaker, and is remembered as a worthy and upright citizen. Later with his family he removed to Kansas which state had been their home for nearly 35 years, residence being made most of the time in and near Kansas City, Kansas. In death he is survived by his wife and four children -- Mrs. Etta Cooper of Atchison, Kan., and sons Elmer, Oklahoma City, Okla., Clyde, Los Angeles, Cal.,; and Alvah of Hoyt, Kansas., also by the following brothers and sisters: David, of Trenton, Neb., Willoughby, Mount Morris; Mrs. Catherine Tice, Mrs. Jacob Thomas and Mrs. Henry Thomas, Mount Morris; Mrs. Susan Thomas, Rockvale; and Mrs. A. E. King, Redwood Falls, Minn.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon in the Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. N. R. Hinds, pastor of the Methodist Church, of which the deceased has been a member for forty years. Rev. L. Ford will assist. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
