J. N. Schreiber

Jacob N. Schreiber was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Schreiber. He was born in Baden, Germany, Dec. 3, 1844, and departed this life Jan. 5, 1922, aged 77 years, 1 month and 2 days.

His parents emigrated to this country when the deceased was nine years of age. They lived in Stephenson County one year when they settled in Leaf River. Here he was reared and educated and later purchased a farm, near his parental home, where he lived until 1900 when he moved to the village of Leaf River, where he has since made his residence.

Mr. Schreiber united in marriage to Miss Catherine Myers, June 23, 1869. He and his devoted companion lived in holy wedlock over fifty-one years. Their home was blessed with three sons and two daughters, Mrs. Wm. Johnson, Mt. Morris; Wm. T. Schreiber, Leaf River; Mrs. B. E. Reams, Leavenworth, Kans.; Andrew Schreiber, Meekin and C. R. Schreiber, Leaf River. The devotion of the family departed husband and father was beautifully attested by the loving care and attention given in the fatal illness of their loved one.

Truly we can say a man of God has been taken from our midst. As a devoted Christian, he was converted in his youth, identified himself with the Evangelical Church, remaining a faithful and devoted member all his life. He was a stauch man of God and a liberal supporter of the church and all movements for righteousness. He rendered faithful and efficent service in all offical relations to his local church. He was well informed with the work of the entire church, and was a faithful reader of the church publications. He was frequently chosen as a delegate to the annual church meetings, conferences and was a man greatly honored, esteemed and counseled by the ministry of his church.

His life was well lived and the time alloted him by God was devoted to the material, civil and spiritual needs of himself, family and community.

His acquaintanceship was large, beling a very enjoyable man, his friends were nmbered in the hundreds, who join in expressing their sorrow to the grief stricken widow and children.

His widow and his five children survive to mourn his departure, together with fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, two sisters and many relatives.

Funeral was held from the home Monday afternoon. The service was in charge of the pastor, Rev. Wm. Grote of Forreston. Sermon was preached by Rev. Wm. Albrecht of Ashton, a former pastor of the North Grove Evangelical Church.
