Death of Miss Janette Cross (1860-1907)

Miss Janette R. Cross after a lingering illness of several months passed away at the home of her sister Mr. James Anderson near Polo, Saturday, September 7, 1907, aged 47 years and one month. The deceased was born August 7, 1860 near Polo and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.George Cross who both preceded her in death several years ago.

For the past twenty years Mess Cross had been actively engaged in the life insurance business and was considered an excellent solicitor. For a number of years much of her time was spent in Chicago where she had her headquarters and worked for the New York Life Insurance Company. Last November she took a severe cold from which she never recovered. Her physician advised a change of climate and in March she took a trip to New Mexico. The change, however, was not beneficial and in the month of May she came to Polo and it was here with her sisters, Mrs. Amos Harmon and Mrs. Anderson that she spent the last few months of her life. Miss Cross was a very energetic business woman and was honored and respected by all with whom she came in contact, with either in a business or a social way. During her last illness though she suffered much at times she was always hopeful and looked forward with expectations when she would again be able to take her place in the busy throng of life but God willed it otherwise and she is now at rest. She is mourned by two sisters, Mrs. James Anderson and Mrs. Amos Harrmon and two brothers, George and Gavin Cross. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hersch who died the 26th of July.

On Monday short services were conducted at the home of Mrs. Anderson and at 1:30 o'clock at the Lutheran church in Polo, Rev. P.B. Holtgreve officiating. The burial was made at the Haldane Cemetery. The pall bearers were nephews of the deceased and were Charles Scholl, Andrew Shoemaker, George and John Anderson, Wm. Cross and Howard Harmon.
