Mrs. Janet Kindell
Mrs. Janet Kindell, for over a half century a resident of this vicinity, died at the City Hospital in Appleton, Wisconsin, on January 28, 1925.Mrs. Kindell was the widow of John E. Kindell, who died twelve years ago. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Stuart and was born at Edinburgh, Scotland, on October 22, 1835. She came to this country with her parents when a young child, and they settled at Paris, Illinois. She married Mr. Kindell at Piqua, Ohio, and they emigrated to this part of Illinois before the Civil War. They first located near Seward, but after a few years purchased the farm in northern Byron Township which was their home for many years.
Following the death of her husband Mrs. Kindell maintained her home in Byron but during the last few years had spent considerable time [with] her daughters. In spite of her advanced age she enjoyed particularly good health and was very active. She had been with her daughter, Mrs. Robert Hench for the past two years, and on Tuesday of last week she fell in the home and fractured her hip. She was taken to the hospital at once that she might have the best of care, but the shock was too great for her to withstand and she passed away on Monday evening.
Her remains were brought to Byron Wednesday, accompanied by Mrs. Hench, and Mrs. J. A. Osborn and Virginia, who had gone to Appleton on Saturday. Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon from the Charles E. Barry home, and were conducted by Rev. A. C. Moses. Burial was in the Byron Cemetery.
Mrs. Kindell was a member of the Middle Creek Presbyterian Church during her residence in that neighborhood, and later affiliated with the Byron Congregational Church.
Four sons and four daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kindell, six of whom survive her. They are A. Edward of Skagway, Alaska, Stuart of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Ida Hench of Appleton, Wis., Mrs. Rosa Barry and Mrs. Lilia Osborn of Byron, and Mrs. Ellen Cramp [sic - Kramp] of Elgin.
