Jeremiah P. Sullivan

Jeremiah P. Sullivan died at his home at Rochelle on Saturday evening at 7 o'clock, after an illness of nearly a year, aged 73. The funeral took place from the Catholic Church at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning.

Mr. Sullivan was born in 1826 in the Parish of Kenturk, County of Cork, Ireland. He came alone to this country in 1850 and resided in Connecticut for three years; he came west in 1853, coming to Rochelle when the C. and N. W. road was built, by which company he was employed at that time. He was married in April 1857 to Miss Bridget Sullivan, youngest daughter of the late Owen, one of the early settlers of Amboy. After he was married he purchased an 80 acre farm in Jefferson Grove, where he lived until 1881, when he sold his farm and purchased 360 acres in Reynolds Township, Lee County, on which they lived until two years ago, when they moved to Rochelle to reside.

The family consisted of thirteen children, nine boys and four girls, Mrs. Sullivan and ten children are still living: Philip and Cornelius of Chicago; Mary and Daniel of Rochelle; Michael and John on the farm; Dr. Eugene A. of Amboy; Jeremiah, Nora and Nellie, the later three residing at home. They were all at the funeral. Mr. Sulivan was a man well known in this election, and was a very sucessful farmer. He was honest in all his dealings, and his word was as good as his bond with those who knew him.
