Chapman Bros. 1886, Page 621J. I. Crill, a retired farmer, residing on his fine farm of 440 acres, located on section 13 Monroe Township, is a native of New York, having been born in Herkimer County, Oct. 24, 1826. The parents of Mr. Crill were James and Susan (Guyvits) Crill, natives of Herkimer County. They emigrated to this State in 1844, and settled on sections 23 and 24, Monroe Township, this county, where the father purchased 200 acres of land, to which he added by a subsequent purchase, 200 acres more, and there lived and labored until his death, which event took place in 1872. The mother died March 15, 1886, on the old homestead, having attained the venerable age of nearly 85 years. Of the parents' union, ten children were born, all of whom lived to become men and women. Two, Jeremiah and Elmina, are deceased, their demise occurring in 1844, and 1861, respectively. The remaining children are Isaac, Peggy, John I., Linnie M., James N., Sarah A. and Martha; Bettsy S. and Lana M. were twins. The father, politically, was a Republican, and in his religious belief adhered to the tenets of the Evangelical Church.
J. I. Crill always lived at home with his parents, and has made farming the vocation of his life. He is enjoying the pleasure of "single blessedness," and is passing the afternoon of his life in quiet retirement on his fine farm. He votes with the Republican party, and is an active worker in its ranks. By his energetic labor and economy, he has acquired a valuable property, both real and personal, and in addition to superintending the cultivation of his farm, he loans considerable money on real estate.Return to Ogle Co.
