John Betebenner was born March 21, 1845, and died February 16, 1921. The Betebenner family moved to Illinois from Boonsboro, Md. … 1844 by wagon, being seven weeks on the road. They settled in a cabin on the Oregon Road. In the fall of 1845, the grandparents moved to Mt. Morris remaining there one winter. In the spring they bought a log house in West Grove and moved it down to the farm; … stone house was built in 1855. … this farm the deceased lived for years. February 18, 1873, Mr. Betebenner was united in marriage to M(s) Jennie E. Mumma, who passed away July 5, 1919. The two sons, Dale of Polo, and Olie of Elbert, Colorado, survive and mourn the loss of their sainted parents. On Easter Sunday, 1902, Mr. Betebenner joined the Lutheran Church of Polo, of which he became a most loyal and devoted member. He had been in poor health for the past three years, but was confined to his bed for three weeks only. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, February 17th at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Rev. D Bruce Young officiating, and the interment was made in Fairmount Cemetery by the side of his wife.
