John Knapp, one of Leaf River's very respected citizens, and who had been failing, was taken very sick on Thursday, June 17th, and removed to the General Hospital in Freeport where he underwent an operation. He seemed to stand the operation very well, but on Thursday, he gradually grew worse, dying Sunday morning.
John William Knapp was born in New York, January 5, 1855, and died in Freeport, June 20, 1915, aged 60 years, 5 months, and 15 days. He was married January 8, 1881, to Jennie C. Kretsinger. To this union, four children were born, of whom two preceded the father.
Mr. Knapp has been a resident of Leaf River Township for over fifty years, coming to this county when a boy of about 9 years of age. He leaves of his immediate family to mourn his loss, his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Ernest Graham, and Miss Vera Knapp.
The funeral and burial were held at Egan Tuesday. Rev. J. W. Lowery officiated assisted by Rev. W. R. South. The following neighbors were the pallbearers: Alfred Malone, Riley A. Motter, Samuel Brick, David Highbarger, William Jones, and Jacob M. Kendel.
