John A. Motter, 82, died at his home at Leaf River Saturday afternoon following a heart attack several weeks ago. Mr. Motter, a former proprietor of a grocery and meat market and a soap factory at Leaf River retired about 15 years ago to devote his time to his farms.
Mr. Motter was born November 25, 1855, and was married to Miss Alice Icely November 8, 1883. In 1933 Mr. and Mrs. Motter celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Surviving are his wife and two sons, Ernest of Oak Park, and Lloyd of Rockford; two sisters, Mrs. Schreiber of Egan and Mrs. Susan Schreiber of Leaf River; twp brothers, Aaron of Leaf River and Will of South Dakota; and four grand daughters of Rockford and Oak Park.
Mr. Motter was a director of the former Leaf River Bank, a founder of the Methodist church, and had served in various capacities for many years.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at home and 2 o'clock at the church. Rev. George Gable officiated. Burial was in the North Grove Evangelical Cemetery.
