Word came to our village Thursday of the death of one of Leaf River's old citizens, of which the Register Gazette had the following item: John W. Ridgeway, a Civil War veteran, died at about the noon hour today at Rockford Hospital. He was an uncle of Miss Jessie Lincoln, of 1226 Corbin Street and had made his home with her for years, the period of his residence in Rockford. Old age was the cause of his death.

Mr. Ridgeway was born in Crawford County, Illinois, in 1831. He is survived by nine children, one of whom, William Ridgeway, resides in Lightsville, Ogle County.

He saw service in the Fourth Illinois Cavalry in the Civil War.

His remains were brought to Leaf River Saturday. Interment at the Egan Cemetery.

For many years Mr. Ridgeway lived in the vicinity of Egan, but of late years had resided in Rockford.
