Obituary from Leaf River Mirror, April 27, 1917

John Zimmerman was born August 20, 1825 in Pennsylvania and died at his home in North Grove in Leaf River Township on Sunday evening April 22, 1917.

More than fifty years ago he came from Pennsylvania where he has lived ever since, having lived in the home in which he died for most of this time.

He was married twice, the first wife being a Miss Haugh. To this union twelve children were born of whom the following are living, Katherine Reber, Sarah Ferguson, Julia Kesselring, Henry, Daniel, and William Zimmerman. Those who have died were Rebecca Myers, Washington, George, Jacob, William, and John Zimmerman. In this family the reader will notice that there were two boys by the name of William, one dying long years ago, and another son was then named William.

The deceased had been in very feeble health the past year.

The funeral was held on Wednesday the 25th at the North Grove Christian Church, Rev. R. W. Pittman, a former minister, conducting the services.

Thus has another of the pioneers of Ogle County gone to his rest. Mr. Zimmerman married the second time and both of his wives are buried in the North Grove Christian Cemetery.

The deceased had lived to the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 2 days.

He was laid to rest in the cemetery where his two wives rest, the following being the pall bearers; Samuel Heiter, Daniel Rowland, Aaron Motter, William B. Wilson, George Grove, Sr., and Morris August.
