Mrs. Lilia Gleason Dies
Mrs. Lilia Gleason died at the Sunny Rest Home in Byron, Sunday noon, Jan. 4, at the age of 78 years. She had been ill for a long time.
Mrs. Gleason was born May 12, 1874, the daughter of Jeanette Stuart and John Eaton Kindell on the Kindell farm in the Middle Creek Community. She attended grade school at Oak Grove rural school, later attending school at Wheaton College.
She married Frank Lowe and they had two children, a daughter, Virginia, who survives, and a son, who died in infancy.
After the death of Mr. Lowe, she was married to John A. Osborn, with whom she was associated in the Osborn Jewelry for a number of years, until the death of Mr. Osborn, caused the discontinuance of the business.
Several years ago, she married John J. Gleason, who survives.
Mrs. Gleason was a member of the Congregational church, later becoming a member of the Byron United Church. She was active in the Women's organizations of the church and was a member of one of the circles.
She was a charter member of the W.R.C. and held a 25 year membership pin, during her membership she held several different offices. She was also a member of the O.E.S. [Order of the Eastern Star], serving as Chaplain for many years and was also a Past Worthy Matron.
She leaves as her survivors, her husband, John J.; her daughter, Virginia (Mrs. Howard J. Palmer) and two granddaughters, Pamelia and Carol Palmer of Minonk; a sister, Mrs. Ellen Kramp of Elgin and several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, Stuart, Edward, John and Walter Kindell, and two sisters, Rosa Barry and Ida Hench, preceded her in death.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gleason were held Wednesday afternoon, at l:30 p.m., at the Bakener funeral home, with the Rev. James Breckenridge of the First Presbyterian Church of Minonk, officiating.
