Lucas K. Hayenga was born November 27, 1840, at Fisquard, Germany. In 1861 he married Miss Meimke Backer. This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter. His first wife died in 1868, and in the year 1871 he married Mrs. Ida Alderks, nee Bruns; two sons and four daughters were born to them, one of the latter dying in infancy. He immigrated to this country with his family in 1884 and lived in Ogle County 27 years.
The deceased suffered considerable during the past twenty years from kidney trouble and rheumatism, which disabled him, but he bore his affliction patiently, maintaining Christian sentiments, and diligently sought the privileges of the house of God.
Several weeks ago he had a stroke of paralysis, which aggrevated his kidney trouble into an uremic condition, resulting in his death on October 13, 1911 at 12:15 p.m. in the presence of his wife and children, aged 70 years, 10 months and 16 days.
Besides his wife, Mr. Hayenga is survived by two brothers, Peter Hayenga, of Holstein, Wisconsin, and Rudolph Hayenga, of Sheldon, Wisconsin; eight children and three step-children, as follows. Jacob Hayenga, of Adeline; Mason, of Oregon, Manno and Lucas, of near Rochelle; Mrs. Ida Demes, of Chicago; Mrs. Anna Luepkes, of Byron, Ill.; Mrs.Gertrude Hendricks, of Kings Ill.;
Mrs. Grace (Alderks) Faust, of Kings; Harm Alderks and Hi Alderks, of near Chana. Illinois.
Funeral services were held last Sunday, October 15th, at 2 p.m., at Elim Ref. Church, Rev. W.R. Mundhenke officiating, and a large concourse of people attended, showing their last token of respect to the dead, who was laid to rest in the White Rock Center Cemetery in the hope of a glorious resurrection.Submitted by Dawn Hayenga Somers - joda80@xta.com
