DIED- Wednesday, January 3, 1883, at the residence of her son, Edgar S. Lent, Mrs. Lucinda Lent, aged 79 years, 2 months and 29 days.
The deceased was a native of Pennsylvania, came with her husband and children to Illinois in the year 1849, and settled in their home in Rockvale Township, in Ogle County, where she has lived to the time of her death.
Her husband, Richard Lent, died in the year 1874.
Mrs. Lent came to the west in a comparative early day, there were but few families settled along the river-. The family attended the church at Stillman - Privileges of church and schools were not convenient-these privations had to be endured rather than enjoyed. As a neighbor, she was always kind to call on and attend the sick, and ever ready to lend a hand in time of need.
As a mother was greatly interested in the welfare of her children and was so careful to see to their wants.
She ever kept a hopitable home, the stranger was made welcome. She with her husband made home cheerful and happy.
Mrs. Lent retained her health and strength, until about six months ago, when that terrible disease (dropsy) manifested itself in an attack. She felt it sorely, and failed for a time, but rallied again, until about five weeks ago, when she had a second attack-medical aid was secured and everything was done for her to help her, but to little avail; during the time she was about the room and ate her meals. On last Tuesday for the last time she ate her supper, complained of her arm and heart giving her pain, and these were the last words she spoke. Quietly and peacefully she ceased to breathe.
"Oh for the death of those
Who slumber in the Lord;
To be like theirs my last repose
Like theirs my last reward.
She has left three sons and four daughters to mourn their loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. Hartman, of Byron, on Saturday the 6th inst., choosing for the text Isaiah, 40:6-8. Her remains were laid away in the Brooklyn Cemetery, there being present many friends and acquaintances to bid a final adieu to one they loved and revered.
