Lydia (Newcomer) Coffman, Herald and Torch Light (Hagerstown, MD) 30 April 1873
A Sudden Death-On Monday, the 28th last, Mrs. Lydia Coffman, wife of our old friend, Mr. David Coffman, living near Jones' Cross Roads, died of apoplexy. The rest of the family left her on Saturday, apparently in good health, with her husband who has been nearly helpless for several years and about 5 o'clock in the afternoon she said she was giddy and would lie down. Her husband heard her fall, and found her lying beside the bed. Being unable to help her he tried to call the neighbors, but did not succeed... His daughters arrived at 6 o'clock, assistance was obtained, and Drs. Ducket and Reichard sent for, but she had a second stroke at 7 o'clock, rendering her unconscious and placing her beyond medical aid. She died between 2 and 3 o'clock on Monday morning deeply mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends and neighbors.
