After a long and well rounded Christian life, Mrs. Lydia K. Yeakel was called to her heavenly abiding place, Thursday morning, October 17, 1912 at almost half past ten. Her demise occurred at the home of her son, John, in Polo, after an illness of little more than a week. Her age at the time of her death was 83 years, 7 months and 9 days. Lydia Kriebel was a daughter of Samuel and Sarah Kriebel and was born March 8, 1829 in Gwyned Township, Montgomery County, Pa. She was married in her native state to John Yeakel, October 9, 1849. The spring following their marriage they moved to Herefordville, Pa. where they resided on a farm for twenty one years and where all of their children were born except the youngest son, John.
In 1871, Mr. and Mrs. Yeakel with their family, came to Polo, Ill. Five years later they moved to their farm west of Polo and after eight years returned to this city where Mr. Yeakel passed away, February 3, 1901.
Mr. and Mrs. Yeakel were the parents of nine children, seven of whom survive and will ever hold in loving memory godly parents who early instructed them in Christian living. The children are Samuel K. of Spokane, Wash.; Jefferson K. of Kanawha, Iowa; Mrs. Susanna Stoner of Polo; Rev. Edwin K. of El Paso, Ill; Sarah Jane who died in infancy; Mrs. Emma Wolf of Stella, Neb.; Dr. Wm. K. of Chicago; Mrs. Ella Yeakel who died March 30, 1893 and John K. of Polo.
Mrs. Yeakel was converted in 1855, under the labors of the Rev. Edwin Long and lived true to her Master in all the years that followed. She united with the Evangelical Church and was faithful and active in all Christian work. Mr. and Mrs. Yeakel, surrounded by their children and grandchildren were permitted to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of their married life, October 9, 1899, a privilege which few enjoy. Her was a life well spent, her memory will ever be an inspiration to her children and to all who knew her.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of her son, John, and at 2 at the United Evangelical Church, Rev. J. H. Keagle officiating, assisted by Rev. W. F. Berge of Sterling and Rev. R. S.. Welch of Brookville. Interment was in Fairmount Cemetery.
